My first book, Lose the Baggage, Lose the Weight was
released December of 2011. The revised edition hit the market in March 2014.
Most of my life I lived in poverty and spent years in foster care.
Determination, strong will, and my belief in God enabled me
to work my way out of early disadvantages, graduate from college and move on to
succeed in several different careers. I began as a counselor and sales
representative for a weight loss clinic, and within a few short years, managed
three centers in the Portland, Oregon, area.
I served as Public
Relations/Fund Development Executive for USA Council for the Treasure State
(Montana) Girl Scout organization. In that capacity, she was often asked to
speak with young women and girls about “Growth and Development.”
I then served for ten years as Communication Arts instructor
at Havre Middle School in Havre, Montana, teaching English, Literature,
Reading, and Drama, and Journalism courses. Selected for Who's Who Among American
Teachers, I served as English Department Head at Havre for six years. I also
developed an award-winning speech and debate program and was nominated for
Coach of the Year in 1997. I was selected for the Montana pilot program for
Teacher Mentoring and was nominated for the Disney Award in 2000.
As both a titleholder and a volunteer with the Miss
Montana/Miss America organization, I helped to initiate the Miss Montana school
tour and Little Sister programs. Combining my work in the pageant field with
earlier experience in weight loss and motivation, I formed Resolutions! in
2004, providing a range of personal improvement workshops and training programs
designed for individuals, groups, and businesses.
As the state coordinator for Bully Busters, I coordinated
efforts to pass the Healthy Workplace bill in Montana. The back story is shared
in my upcoming book, BRAVERY, BULLIES, AND BLOWHARDS-Lessons learned in a
Montana classroom.
